In tonight’s podcast, I share all the cool things I’m learning at school and talk about why I didn’t finish my Class Reunion Dress. I also lose my voice and cough in your ear a couple of times (I deleted the really bad coughing fits). I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow.

Here is a the close-up shot of the pleating lines for the neckline of my Class Reunion Dress. The picture shows the inside of the dress. The eggplant colored stitches are the basting stitches. The wrong side of the dress is blue and the right side is eggplant colored. This fabric might be a little too heavy for this type of pleating.
(Since I can hardly keep my eyes open, I better head off to bed now…)
Hope you are feeling better by now! Interested in your curriculum but my just became a homeschooler is 10 years old. Any ideas of a curriculum that is suited to an older child? found your podcast thru itunes and have enjoyed your new journey/career change!

Believe it or not, I think my curriculum will work for a 10-year old, too. Obviously the sample lesson is geared toward K-2 but I try to offer adaptations for those students who don’t need to start at the “basic” level. For example, in one lesson the children practice measuring and cutting using paper. Your 10-year-old could use fabric such as felt instead of the paper. And lest you think that would be too basic, we had to do measuring and cutting exercises in my college-level sewing class!
Now, your 10-year-old may not get into the “story” that introduces the stitches, but I’m thinking that it might inspire you to tell your own story to go along with it.
Truly, the sewing process and the projects in the curriculum span all ages–many of the projects are adapted from all adult books–but I’ve chosen to use language geared for grades 1-4ish.
