Singer Four Star Playhouse

Okay, I’ll admit it.  The fairy godmother was in quite a funk.  I know I should have told you all about it but I didn’t even realize what a funk I was in until I broke out of it the other day.  The biggest hint should have been when I didn’t feel like sewing.  I know, crazy, huh?  I did get some stuff done that I’ll tell you about in my upcoming podcast.

Did you know that Singer was the sponsor of the Four Star Playhouse during the Golden Age of TV?  I didn’t until a week or so ago when I watched one of the shows on You Tube (and, of course, now I can’t find the episode I watched starring Dick Powell and a very young Joanne Woodward).  But, the best part of the show was watching the old Singer commercials!  These weren’t quick 30-second or 1-minute spots like today.  No, these were actually educational!   They actually inspired me to try some new detailing!

I found this almost 4-minute Singer commercial explaining how to use the new zig-zag attachment (for only $14.95) with an offer for an in-home demonstration, if I’d like.  *sigh*  Those were the days, weren’t they?

  • You’re back! Thank goodness! I was worried about you. I just find you and then you disappear. No more funks! We need you.

  • Hi Julie,
Everyone gets down sometimes and something as dynamic as life combined with sewing (funny as that sounds) will yank at our emotions in different ways. There is so much of ourselves tied up in it. Keep up the good work. Please read more at a time out of that book? Please? I love the vintage stuff you find:-) BTW your other pattern pieces may be stowed in another envelope that looks similar. Maybe you carefully folded them and put them in what you thought was the correct envelope.

      Thanks for the encouragement!

I’ll read more from the book at a time. I thought I was reading too much to digest, but I guess not! :)
