Simplicity 843

Simplicity 8473

Quick note because I’m falling asleep at the keyboard but I wanted to check in with  you all today….

In my podcast the other day, I mentioned buying some tan twill to make some work shirts for My Honey.  I noticed last week that a work shirt I had made for him out of corduroy, oh, gosh, 15 years ago was finally starting to look a bit worn out.  I used Simplicity 8473.  I used View 2 for his corduroy shirt (the gingham with white yoke  is V. 2 in the photo) and he asked me to use the same view again.

Now, I don’t know about your husbands, but my husband is so very kind that he still fits into the same shirts he did 15 years ago.  I can use the same exact pattern!

As you can see, it is a 36 chest.  He has a size 30 waist.  In this day and age, it is nearly impossible to find trim-fit or athletic cut work shirts.  And it is getting harder to find dress shirts that fit him, too!  Apparently most men are built square now because all of the clothes seem to be hugely baggy and “comfort fitted”.  When My Honey tries on a regular casual or workshirt, the armholes hit him at the elbows.  Not a good look.

Now, I could have sworn I bought a vintage men’s shirt from the 50′s for My Honey from Sheila at Out of the Ashes last spring or summer.  But I sure can’t find it anywhere in the house.  I’m really hoping that it is in one of the boxes in the basement.  Why don’t I go look?   Well, we have one of those houses where you can’t get to the basement directly.  I have to go outside, down the hill, and battle with the rain swollen door.  I haven’t been able to get the door open, yet, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to open it in another day or two.

So, what are you all working on?
